About The Jace Memorial Fund
A Memorial Fund for Apprentice Electricians, in Honor of Jace Davis
We help apprentice electricians get the tools and resources they need to succeed in the trade.
The Jace Memorial Fund was created in memory of Jace Davis, a young apprentice electrician who loved the trade and the people he worked alongside. We’re not a large, nationwide program. We support apprentices in local union programs directly, so the people we help are ones our community actually knows.
Support looks like a starter tool backpack, boots, gas cards, and clothing gift cards, given out at key moments like starting the program, logging volunteer hours, or reaching perfect attendance. Whether someone’s just beginning their electrical apprenticeship or working toward their license, we want to make sure financial hardship never stands in the way of a hardworking apprentice.
REMEMBERING JACE DAVIS
Jace loved the outdoors, the trade, and the people in it
Jace was happiest outside. He loved animals, and he spent countless hours in the woods, out on the marshes, and at his favorite fishing spots, sometimes with family and friends and sometimes just on his own. Growing up, he played football, baseball, basketball, and wrestled, and he brought that same drive to everything he did.
In 2020, Jace started his career as an apprentice electrician with an electrical contractor. He took to the trade quickly, and it wasn’t long before he was the one helping newer apprentices find their footing.
As brave as he was, Jace wasn’t without his fears. Early in his apprenticeship, a job put him on a boom lift high above the site, and heights terrified him. He went up anyway, day after day, until the fear didn’t hold him back anymore. That was Jace.
Jace passed away in a car accident in April 2023. The Jace Memorial Fund was created in his memory to give new apprentices in his local union scholarships for boots, tools, and books as they start their careers. It’s a way to keep doing what Jace did best, looking out for the next person coming into the trade.
about the cause
We're a hand up, not a hand out, for apprentice electricians
Apprentice electricians spend years learning the trade before their paycheck can cover everything the job requires. We started this fund in Jace’s memory to close that gap, giving apprentice electricians across the Bay Area the tools, gear, and everyday support they need to keep going. Our long-term goal is to give every incoming apprentice class a full backpack of starter tools before their first day on the job.
Be part of the next apprentice's story.
How we support new electrical apprentices
We provide practical, everyday support to apprentice electricians, tools, gear, and essentials that help them stay in the trade during those first difficult years.
1.
Tools & Equipment
Every apprentice receives a backpack outfitted with Milwaukee tools, the same brand many electricians rely on throughout their careers, giving them a real foundation to start the job instead of borrowed or secondhand gear.
2.
Boots & Clothing
We provide gift cards toward steel-toed work boots and trade-specific clothing, the kind of gear required on nearly every job site but rarely covered by an apprentice’s early paycheck.
3.
Books & Materials
We help cover the cost of required coursework materials, so keeping up with training doesn’t become an added financial burden on top of the job.
4.
Gas Cards
In addition to helping cover the everyday cost of commuting to work and class, gas cards are awarded to apprentices who log the most volunteer hours, recognizing effort that goes beyond the job itself.
